Viking Line and TT-Line will introduce the MV Huckleberry Finn on a new ferry service connecting Vuosaari in Helsinki with Muuga, near Tallinn, strengthening freight and passenger transport between Finland and Estonia from the first quarter of 2027.
The two shipping companies will jointly operate the service using the vessel, which they own in equal shares. The partnership is intended to establish a long-term transport connection across the Gulf of Finland, complementing existing ferry services between the neighbouring countries.

The new route will provide another option for freight operators moving goods between Finland and Estonia, while also carrying passengers. With its capacity for 400 passengers and 2,240 lane metres of freight, the MV Huckleberry Finn will serve both commercial transport needs and passenger traffic.
Viking Line CEO Marcus Risberg said the vessel would provide a solid foundation for developing the Vuosaari-Muuga connection over the coming years.
“Huckleberry Finn provides us with a strong platform for developing the service between Vuosaari and Muuga over the long term. Together with TT-Line, we are combining the experience and market knowledge of two shipping companies on an important route between Finland and Estonia,” Risberg said.
Freight transport is expected to be a central part of the new operation. The companies say demand for efficient connections between Finland and Estonia remains strong, making capacity and reliability important considerations for businesses that depend on regular sea transport.
Harri Tamminen, Freight Director at Viking Line, said the additional service would strengthen the company’s position in the market and provide more capacity for existing and future customers.
“For our customers, ample capacity and high reliability are essential. With the new service, we are strengthening our presence in the market and can offer even better conditions for both current and future transport needs,” Tamminen said.
The MV Huckleberry Finn is an established vessel rather than a newly built ferry. It was constructed in 1988 at Schichau Seebeckswerft in Bremerhaven, Germany, and underwent rebuilding work in 1993 and 2001. The ship measures 177 metres in length and 26 metres in width.

One of its notable technical features is its 1A ice classification, which is relevant to shipping operations in the Baltic Sea, where winter conditions can affect maritime traffic. The vessel’s ice-class rating provides an important capability for operating in ice conditions.
The new service will connect Vuosaari, Helsinki’s freight-oriented port area, with Muuga, a major port east of Tallinn. The connection is expected to offer freight customers another route for moving goods between the two countries, alongside existing maritime links.
The companies have confirmed that the MV Huckleberry Finn is scheduled to begin operating on the route during the first quarter of 2027. Further operational details, including the final sailing schedule, have not been provided in the announcement.
