The initiative brings a group of VIP guests from Pakistan to South Africa to experience the country’s tourism offering, including its destinations, attractions and travel connections. The visit comes as Pakistan joins the markets eligible for South Africa’s Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), a development that could help facilitate travel for eligible visitors.

During the trip, the delegation is scheduled to explore three provinces: the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal. The programme is intended to introduce the guests to the range of experiences available across South Africa and strengthen relationships that could support future travel between the two markets.

Air connectivity is another important part of the initiative. Emirates currently operates four daily flights to Johannesburg, three daily flights to Cape Town and one daily flight to Durban. The airline has also planned additional capacity for December and January to accommodate seasonal demand, according to the announcement.

The expanded flight options provide connections to three major South African destinations, supporting access for international visitors and the tourism industry. Combined with the introduction of ETA eligibility for Pakistan, the developments offer an opportunity for South African Tourism and its airline partner to encourage greater interest in the country among Pakistani travellers.

The delegation was welcomed at Cape Town International Airport by Refilwe Fosu-Amoah, Global Trade Relations Officer at South African Tourism; Anja Meadon, Emirates Sales Manager for the Cape Region; Khurram Salar, Emirates Head of Sales in Pakistan; and Deon Tebbutt, Emirates Airport Services Manager in Cape Town.

The visit also highlights the role of cooperation between national tourism organisations and airlines in developing international visitor markets. Familiarisation trips allow invited guests to experience destinations first-hand, helping them gain a clearer understanding of the attractions, travel options and experiences they may later recommend to prospective visitors.

For South Africa, the programme provides an opportunity to showcase destinations across several provinces while building stronger commercial and tourism relationships with Pakistan. South African Tourism and Emirates have expressed their intention to deepen their partnership and encourage more travellers from Pakistan to visit the country.
