US President Donald Trump drew attention at a rally in Port Huron, Michigan, on Sunday, October 25, after publicly complimenting rapper Nicki Minaj’s backside in remarks that prompted reactions online.
Trump made the comment while addressing supporters at McMorran Place Arena, where Minaj appeared alongside him after travelling to the event aboard Air Force One.
“By the way, I looked at one hell of a beautiful ass before, Nicki Minaj. That’s hard to miss,” Trump told the crowd.
He then asked Minaj to stand up as attendees cheered. Trump also said he hoped the rapper would not be offended by his remark, adding that he appreciated her support.
“I hope Nicki wasn’t insulted, but we love Nicki. She’s been with us for a long time,” he said.
The exchange came as Trump discussed his earlier comments about Republican Senator Jon Husted of Ohio, whom he had recently praised for his athletic build.
Earlier in October, Trump described examining Husted’s physique and expressing surprise at the senator’s athletic background, which included playing college football.
“I don’t do this with men very often. I started examining his body, because I didn’t know he was a great athlete,” Trump said.
He went on to describe looking at Husted’s body and hands, comparing the senator’s fingers to claws before congratulating him on his athletic ability.
“You are a great athlete. Congratulations,” Trump told Husted.
Trump’s remarks about Minaj brought the earlier comments about Husted back into focus, with the president drawing attention to the physical appearance of both figures during public remarks.
The incident added another widely discussed moment to Trump’s public appearances, as his personal comments about public figures became a talking point beyond the rally itself.
