The NFL and NFL Players Association have launched a joint review of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts’ medical care following a blood clot diagnosis that reportedly ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

According to TMZ, the review will examine how the Eagles handled Hurts’ diagnosis and treatment. The announcement comes amid questions about the medical care he received and the need to establish the facts surrounding his condition.

“The NFL and NFL Players Association are working together to review the matter,” the two organisations said in a joint statement on Sunday, October 25.

The announcement followed a call from the players’ association for a full investigation before conclusions were drawn about the care provided to Hurts. The union stressed that establishing the facts was necessary to help ensure players receive appropriate medical treatment and protection.

TMZ reported that Hurts was initially diagnosed with a superficial blood clot in his leg. Subsequent examinations reportedly identified multiple blood clots in his lungs, leading to his reported season-ending absence.

The development has raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the diagnosis and treatment, although the joint review has not announced any findings regarding the Eagles’ handling of the case.

Speaking to TMZ’s “In The Know,” Dr David Abbasi offered an outside medical assessment of the potential recovery period. He suggested that Hurts could require three to six months away from football because of bleeding risks associated with blood-thinning medication.

Abbasi’s estimate was not an official recovery timetable from Hurts’ treating doctors, and the available information does not establish when the quarterback might be able to return to competition.

The joint review is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding Hurts’ medical care, but neither the NFL nor the players’ association has publicly announced its findings. Until the review is completed, questions about the treatment process remain unresolved.
