Shilla Stay will provide accommodation and dedicated guest services for key participants attending World Youth Day Seoul 2027, following an agreement with the event’s local organizing committee as South Korea prepares to welcome young people and Catholic Church representatives from around the world.
The hotel brand, operated by Hotel Shilla, signed a memorandum of understanding with the World Youth Day Seoul 2027 Local Organizing Committee at Myeongdong Cathedral in Seoul on July 30, 2026. The agreement covers accommodation and hospitality arrangements for the international religious gathering, which will take place in Seoul in 2027.

Under the partnership, dignitaries from South Korea and other countries, including international delegations of bishops, are expected to stay at Shilla Stay properties during the event. The hotel group will also provide services designed to help participants navigate their stays more easily.
Planned arrangements include dedicated check-in services, information desks and coordinated guest movement within participating hotels. These measures are intended to make the arrival and stay of official guests more efficient while allowing hotels to continue serving their regular customers comfortably.
The agreement places Shilla Stay among the hospitality providers preparing to accommodate participants and official delegations during one of the Catholic Church’s major international gatherings. The scale of the event will require accommodation providers to manage guests arriving from different countries, with varying schedules and service needs.
World Youth Day is an international gathering organized by the Catholic Church and led by the Pope. First held in Rome in 1986, it has since brought young Catholics together in cities around the world, generally every two to four years. The 2027 edition in Seoul will be South Korea’s turn to host the event and only the second World Youth Day held in Asia, following the gathering in Manila, the Philippines, in 1995.
For Shilla Stay, the partnership will draw on its operating model across a network of 17 properties in South Korea and China. The brand uses standardized procedures intended to maintain consistent service across its hotels while adapting to the needs of different guests and locations.
Shilla Stay describes its approach through the concept of a “Smarter Stay“, focusing on practical comfort, contemporary design and efficient service for business and leisure travelers. The brand operates within Hotel Shilla’s hospitality business and draws on the wider group’s service standards.
Its international expansion took a step forward in April 2026 with the opening of Shilla Stay Yancheng in Jiangsu Province, China. The property marked the brand’s first overseas opening, extending its operating model beyond South Korea.
The company has also established a strong position in its domestic market. According to the announcement, Shilla Stay ranked first in the business hotel category of the Korea Brand Power Index for seven consecutive years. The recognition was cited by the company as evidence of its brand strength and ability to maintain consistent service across its hotel network.
A Shilla Stay representative said the 2027 gathering would provide an opportunity to present South Korea’s culture, tourism and hospitality capabilities to an international audience. The representative added that the brand intended to support the event through accommodation services and a guest experience focused on comfort and safety for key participants and official delegations.
The partnership comes as preparations continue for World Youth Day Seoul 2027, with accommodation forming one part of the arrangements needed to receive international visitors. Shilla Stay’s involvement will focus on housing selected participants and coordinating hotel services, rather than serving as the event’s sole accommodation provider.
Hotel Shilla, the parent company, operates several hospitality brands, including The Shilla, Shilla Monogram and Shilla Stay. Its wider business also includes The Shilla Duty Free, which operates retail stores in South Korea and overseas, alongside an online platform.
The agreement with the Seoul organizing committee gives Shilla Stay a defined role in the hospitality arrangements for 2027. Details of participating hotel properties and the number of guests to be accommodated were not specified in the announcement.
