Sophie Okonedo Brings Feathered Dior, Fringe and Prada Satin to the Clarissa Press Tour

Sophie Okonedo is making a strong fashion statement on the Clarissa press tour, stepping out in a series of distinctive looks that combine dramatic textures, elegant silhouettes and carefully chosen accessories. From a feather-trimmed Dior gown at the Cannes Film Festival to a striking yellow Prada dress at the BFI London Film Festival, the British-Nigerian actress has demonstrated a clear appreciation for pieces that balance sophistication with personality.

The Academy Award nominee has built a reputation for red carpet choices that feel expressive without relying on excessive embellishment. Her latest appearances continue that approach, with feathers, cascading fringe, intricate surface details and rich satin fabrics giving each outfit its own character. All the looks featured on the tour were styled by Nell Kalonji.

At the Cannes Film Festival premiere of Clarissa, Okonedo wore a custom black Dior gown that relied on texture rather than bold colour to make an impression. An asymmetric neckline framed by delicate black feathers extended into further feather detailing around the skirt and sweeping train. The result was a sculptural silhouette in which the soft, flowing embellishments contrasted with the gown’s more structured shape. Her hairstyle added another point of interest, with a change in colour and styling bringing a fresh dimension to her cornrows.

For the Magnum Cannes after-party, Okonedo moved towards a softer palette, wearing a figure-skimming satin gown in a buttery champagne shade with a plush faux-fur stole. The combination recalled classic Hollywood eveningwear, while the fluid shape of the dress kept the look contemporary. Her sculptural curls added a playful element, balancing the formality of the satin and stole.

Fringe took centre stage at a BAFTA Tea Party question-and-answer event held during the New York Film Festival celebrations. Okonedo wore a halter-neck dress from Luar’s Fall 2026 collection, pairing an elongated silhouette with slashed embellishments and cascading fringe. The design created movement without making the outfit feel overly busy. Jimmy Choo Ixia pumps completed the look, adding a sleek finish to a dress that combined precise tailoring with a more unconventional edge.

Texture was again the focus during a press junket in Midtown Manhattan, where Okonedo appeared in a white look from Chanel’s Fall 2026 collection. The outfit’s clean overall shape allowed its intricate surface detailing to stand out, with the embellishments becoming more pronounced towards the hem. She paired the ensemble with a crocodile-effect Chanel clutch and oversized sunglasses, introducing a playful contrast to the otherwise polished styling.

Her New York Film Festival appearance also offered a closer look at the beauty choices accompanying the fashion. Makeup artist Nick Barose described the look as “flirty fringes with joyous red lips”, building a fresh complexion with Lisa Eldridge’s Seamless Skin Foundation in shade 22 and Luminist Concealer in shade 21. Velatura Balm Dewy Lip and Cheek Stick in Pomegranate Glace added warmth, while Elevated Glow Balm Concentrate in High-key Light gave the skin a subtle sheen.

For the eyes, Barose used the Seamless Glide Eye Pencil in Black Treacle alongside shades from the Vega Eyeshadow Palette, finishing with Liquid Lurex Eyeshadow in Selene for added dimension. Kitten Lash Mascara created a fluttery effect, while Kitten Brow Fluffy Hold and Flyaway Gel kept the brows in place. A combination of Enhance and Define Lip Pencil in Duchess and Rouge Experience lipstick in Ribbon delivered the vivid red lip that anchored the look.

The beauty styling complemented the clothes without competing with them. The natural-looking complexion, softly defined eyes and bold lipstick gave the overall appearance a sense of balance, reinforcing the expressive approach seen throughout the tour.

Okonedo brought a brighter colour palette to the Clarissa premiere at Vue West End during the BFI London Film Festival, wearing a yellow satin gown by Prada. The dress featured a twisted neckline and an open back finished with a delicate bow, details that gave the design a different character when viewed from behind. The saturated yellow also offered a striking contrast to the black Dior gown and white Chanel ensemble seen at other appearances.

Across the tour, Okonedo has moved between established luxury houses and more experimental design, wearing pieces by Dior, Luar, Chanel and Prada. Rather than relying on one signature silhouette, she has used changes in fabric, colour and construction to give each appearance a distinct identity. The recurring emphasis on texture, from the feathers in Cannes to the fringe in New York, provides a thread connecting the different looks.

The styling credits also reflect the collaborative work behind the appearances. Kalonji led the styling, with hair and makeup for the Cannes looks by Vitor Moreira and Amy Wright. Barose handled makeup for the New York Film Festival appearances, while the BFI London Film Festival look featured hair, makeup and nails by Wright and Olivia Gane.

Taken together, the outfits show how Okonedo’s press-tour wardrobe can move between red carpet glamour and more unconventional design while retaining a consistent sense of character. Each look makes its impact through considered details, allowing the actress to explore dramatic fashion without losing the understated elegance that has become a defining part of her public style.
