Kamala Harris Says She Has Not Decided Whether to Run for President in 2028

Kamala Harris has not decided whether to run for US president in 2028, with the former vice president urging Americans to focus on the 2026 midterm elections before turning their attention to the next presidential race.

Harris addressed her political future during an appearance on Keke Palmer’s podcast, “Baby, This Is Keke Palmer”, where she was asked whether she planned to make another bid for the White House. She laughed at the question before making clear that she had not reached a decision.

Rather than commit to a position on 2028, Harris emphasized the importance of the upcoming midterm elections. She argued that Democrats needed to make significant gains in the current election cycle, signalling that the party’s immediate electoral priorities should take precedence over speculation about its next presidential nominee.

Her comments leave open the possibility of another presidential campaign following her unsuccessful 2024 bid against Donald Trump. Harris has not ruled herself out of the race, but she has repeatedly said that her immediate focus is on the midterms and helping Democrats secure victories.

During an earlier appearance at an NAACP event in Michigan, Harris also said she had not decided whether to run again, stressing that the outcome of the 2026 elections would be important to the party’s future.

Her latest remarks come as questions about a possible 2028 campaign continue to circulate among Democratic supporters, donors and political observers. Harris remains a prominent figure within the party, but another presidential bid would place her in a new nomination contest rather than the circumstances that led to her becoming the Democratic nominee in 2024.

A report by The Wall Street Journal has added another dimension to the discussion. According to the newspaper, Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff, has privately expressed reservations about her running for president again, with concerns linked to the personal toll of the 2024 campaign. The report also indicated that people close to Emhoff expect him to support Harris if she ultimately decides to run.

For now, Harris is continuing to campaign for Democratic candidates ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections. Her decision on 2028 remains unresolved, and her public comments suggest she wants the party to concentrate on the elections immediately ahead before debating who should lead its next presidential campaign.
