Alabama Mother and Woman Indicted in Starvation Death of 5-Year-Old
A starvation death has been declared in Alabama after authorities indicted a mother and another woman for the death of 5-year-old Jaedah Robinson. The Jefferson County coroner ruled Robinson’s death last fall a homicide.

Robinson was brought to Children’s of Alabama in October, but she died later that same day. Officials say the child suffered prolonged neglect that prevented her from receiving adequate nutrition and medical attention.

Thirty-four-year-old Raven Rogers, Robinson’s mother, and 30-year-old Saiyah Ferguson, who lived in the same home, are accused of contributing to the child’s death. An indictment details that Rogers failed to provide proper care and nourishment, while Ferguson allegedly participated in aggravated child abuse or neglect that led to Robinson’s death.

Rogers faces charges of criminally negligent homicide and endangering the welfare of her older daughter. Ferguson is charged with felony murder. Alabama authorities have set Ferguson’s bond at $500,000. Rogers was released on bond after her arrest.

The case has drawn attention to child welfare enforcement in Jefferson County, raising questions about monitoring of at-risk children and the responsibilities of cohabitants in households where neglect occurs. Investigators continue to review how the situation escalated to a fatal outcome despite prior interventions.
