LeBron James has broken the NBA record for the most regular-season games played, appearing in his 1,612th match as the Los Angeles Lakers narrowly defeated the Orlando Magic 105-104.
The 41-year-old basketball star surpassed Robert Parish’s long-standing record of 1,611 games, which had stood since Parish retired in 1997. Including playoff contests, James has played a total of 1,904 games, already placing him far ahead of other legends like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who has 1,797 appearances, and Parish, with 1,795.
Saturday night’s game was memorable not just for the milestone. The Lakers clinched the win with a last-second three-pointer from Luka Kennard. James contributed 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and three steals while shooting five of thirteen from the field.
Now in his 23rd NBA season, James continues to set and extend records. He leads in points scored, field goals made, and field goals attempted. He also holds the record for the longest streak of regular-season games scoring at least 10 points, a streak that has reached 1,297 games.
Despite the historic occasion, James said his routine did not change. “It was a regular prep day,” he explained. “I know once I stepped on the floor that I was breaking the record, and that’s a pretty cool thing. I said the other night, the best thing you can do for your teammates is to be available, and I’ve tried to be available throughout my career, two decades plus, for my guys.”
James’ achievement highlights both longevity and consistency in a sport known for its physical demands. Few players have matched his ability to remain a key contributor across more than two decades while continuously competing at the highest level.
